The Anterior Cruciate Ligament ACL is the most commonly injured ligament of the knee. The ACL runs diagonally in the middle of the knee, preventing the tibia from sliding out in front of the femur and providing rotational stability to the knee.

There are approximately 200,000 ACL injuries annually.

ACL tears can be treated non-surgically with physical therapy or surgically through ligament-grafting to repair the injured ACL.

Medical professionals agree that patients with a stiff, swollen knee who lack a full range of motion at the time of therapy or surgery may have significant difficulty regaining motion in the short and long term.

To increase the likelihood of a full recovery from ACL injuries, patients must reduce swelling before undergoing non-surgical or surgical treatment.

Chill Cryotherapy can increase the likelihood of a full recovery from ACL injuries!! Here is how we can help:

  1. Whole-body cryotherapy: A 3-minute whole-body cryotherapy session will significantly reduce inflammation and swelling throughout the body, especially in the knees. Reducing systemic inflammatory load will relieve swelling in the knee.
  2. With ACL injuries, we recommend local cryotherapy to the affected knee to significantly (and usually visibly) reduce swelling. By reducing swelling and inflammation, the knee’s range of motion and flexibility will increase, increasing the likelihood of effective physical therapy and/or surgical repair.

Cryotherapy can improve your chances of regaining strength, flexibility, and mobility in your knee after an ACL injury. Whether your injury requires physical therapy or surgical intervention, early reduction in swelling and inflammation (and pain) will improve prognosis significantly.

ChillRx Cryotherapy offers an Acute Injury Protocol to address ACL injuries. Our protocol is a 5-day package that includes whole-body and local cryotherapy applied directly to the injury.
